Kate P Zahrah Aullybocus CraigBlack26 AfflictionByLeasehold Commonhold Now Indeed consent from the Freeholder is required in order to assign (the technical legal term used “to sell”) your lease but consent cannot be ‘unreasonably’ withheld.. it works this way because you don’t actually OWN the property

CraigBlack26 Helen AfflictionByLeasehold Commonhold Now A lease is like a long term rental agreement save that you pay a heck of a lot more for having a property that’s yours “for a limited time only”.

AfflictionByLeasehold When will everyone in 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 finally grasp the fact that leasehold is a tenancy agreement it’s NOT ownership (= Freehold = Commonhold equivalent) as the rest of the modern world understands it) ???

Ending service charge abuse ultimately requires bringing the archaic and iniquitous leasehold system to an end.

With the Tories having failed to do so, ministers must at least act now to protect leaseholders and shared owners from the excessive demands so many are being served.

This is the debate in the House of Lords on the extension of the ban on leasehold to include flats and introducing Commomhold. Very poor response from the Government which delivers nothing. ☹️

Another very disappointing response from the Government last night with NO commitment to bring back an amendment at Report Stage to deal with the issue for Forfeiture. members.parliament.uk/member/4153/co…

Just a thought … but … do we really want people’s pensions to be reliant on the volatile and exploitative business of rent extraction? Would that money be better invested elsewhere? Just a thought. Just thinking.

*20 year transition still being debated this weekend in government, could slip a bit

The £250 cap and 20 year transition were both in a write-round that Number 10 dictated earlier this month and the PM's support for these measures were conveyed to relevant departments

'This government has failed on housing so comprehensively that it's difficult to know where to start.'

Labour's Barry Gardiner slams Tories' Michael Gove for backing investors and failing homeowners on leasehold.

2/ £250pa max with further dilution of GR is good. But bigging up peppercorn GR means it's a step backwards. Mr Gove is likely to be the last to tinker with leasehold, not the person who buried it.

SJP We pressed the government in committee to strengthen the provisions in the Leasehold and Freehold Reform Bill relating to service charges and we've been urging them literally for years to take decisive action on soaring buildings insurance premiums.
