The Home Office has ditched plans to move a group of asylum seekers to the Bibby Stockholm after protests.

The men, incl Afghans, had been living in Margate but were told they would be moved.

The community held demos and order has now been pulled👇

Local election day! I wrote this last year i newspaper - it looks at two councils, Cornwall and Wandsworth, where local councillors, one Tory and one Labour, have taken on developers to get affordable homes built! That’s the power of local govt! inews.co.uk/news/housing/l…

It’s easy to take voting for granted but walking into a polling station with your neighbours and being able to shape the way your country looks (with the stroke of a pencil!) is no small thing…worth making the trip today. With ID, of course!

NEW: 711 people were detected crossing the Channel in small boats on Wednesday - the highest number in a single day so far this year.

Comes despite the Govt pressing on with its Rwanda plan, which it claims will act as a deterrent to the crossings.

Lots of talk about immigration putting pressure on housing this week. It's not straightforward. Evidence shows that rather than consuming MORE housing, migrants often live in overcrowded homes with poor conditions. Labour shortages since Brexit have also impacted housebuilding.

Claims from Labour at the moment that unfunded spending commitments from the Gov mean the state pension age may have to rise for over 60s.

The good news is it's not true, but Jeremy Hunt has himself to blame for allowing Labour to make the claim at all... inews.co.uk/inews-lifestyl…

I just received an email calling for mortgage regulations to be loosened because 'a strict regulatory environment is dampening home ownership'. This is not untrue but relaxing lending criteria now when rates are volatile and house prices are high would be bonkers (technical term)

Central bank digital currency has one benefit that is rarely discussed: it could increase the seigniorage profits flowing to the public purse rather than to commercial banks. First made this point in 2017 whilst at NEF - great to see Positive Money Simon Youel revisiting it.
