Today I asked the Secretary of State for Housing about unfair fees for leaseholders. It was about bills that bear little relationship to reality, but it takes my challenge to get them reduced. The government didn't even bother answering. Labour Housing Group

Disappointing to hear words spoken on behalf of David Walker arguing for continued leasehold wrongs on the basis the church uses that money to do good

It took the CoE 100’s years to update their position on a greater unfairness Archbishop of Canterbury

You hire a lawyer, you hire a surveyor, the building passes regulations and you plough your savings into the property. Then one day the @mhclg produces a piece of paper with new advice about cladding and your property is worthless.

Who is left liable? Me.

This is what a ‘Gullible Fool’ sounds like. Doesn’t ask a) Name the pension funds expecting losses or b) How is the £30 bn loss calculated? NPV of future cash flows? What discount rate, time period? Can’t take this seriously!

Harry Scoffin Basically the entire point of the bill could be summed up as: “we want to encourage every existing leaseholder to enfranchise”, and then they give a tonne of nonsensical excuses for why this overarching aim shouldn’t apply to newbuilds ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Residents on one estate I know have been slapped with a £200,000+ bill by an energy provider who’s own mistake meant residents were charged less than what they should’ve over a few years. Now the energy provider is demanding £200,000 from the leaseholders and social housing

This is extremely sad, if a managing agent does not carry out their responsibilities of maintenance of the communal areas- as per the terms of the lease. It shouldn't be fair to then back-date charges for a replacement!!

They might want to review the financial viability in light of recent changes to ground rent rules. Please don't buy a flat here. They'll try to recoup their investment some other way.

Yep. I was involved in a leasehold service charge audit. We expended most of our energy on making the auditor 'audit' rather than be a quisling.

Leasehold reform goes mainstream.

If you’re thinking about the new economy we must move towards, you can’t do that with split-the-difference politics and you cannot ignore the need to end the extractive leasehold system.

We need more imagination and conviction from our leaders.
