This is spectacularly put by Victor Adebowale. An absolutely devastating destruction of this government's disgusting attack against disabled individuals. People need support, not sanctions.

Chris Philip doing an admirable job of demonstrating how lacking in any kind of thought, planning, or basic knowledge of this government is. This is just dire.

It's a long standing principle of maritime law - and basic ethical and moral principles - to save people on a nearby sinking vessel. A political party that would let them drown is morally depraved.

‘Defective, Constitutionally improper piece of legislation’.

That’s a significant statement from the Law Society. If government think this legislation will stand without further challenge they’re astonishingly deluded.

The “Safety of Rwanda” bill was passed by the UK Parliament: both UN Human Rights and UNHCR are very concerned by this decision, which breaches refugee law and won’t help address the challenges of irregular population movements.

'We note with sadness and concern the rise in hostility towards those who come to these islands seeking refuge.'

Archbishops Archbishop of Canterbury and Archbishop of York join with church leaders to renew their commitment to caring for the most vulnerable.

“A government putting forward a bill of this nature has lost the right to be trusted.” Very good from Ian Dunt on a shameful day.

There’s a book to be written on how Sunak got to a place where his Rwanda policy with its unworkable, cruel, expensive, law breaking nationally embarrassing contradictions- Rwanda is safe but it’s a deterrent etc, etc- became his make or break policy in a country where public…

Tories call passing Rwanda Bill a “landmark moment”.
Yes
A “landmark moment” of constitutional thuggery.
A “landmark moment” of govt extremism, financial idiocy and vicious inhumanity.
A “landmark moment” of international irresponsibility and national disgrace.
Shame on them all.

This should not need saying.

Any bill which requires human rights to be set aside to achieve it?

Is fundamentally flawed.

The UK USED to be the leader in sensible law - the country others looked to for best practice.

We need to get back to that.

It is well known that the Prime Minister & the Home Secretary consider the Rwanda bill, respectively, appalling value for money & ‘batshit crazy’. The deputy Foreign Secretary wrote, just two years ago, of its absurd cost & cruel abuse of genuine asylum seekers.
But here we are.

Such a sense of loss watching this Rwanda debacle continue. A profound fury & sadness for the people directly impacted, people that came here in the hope of safety & a chance to rebuild their lives with their family. Thought of being shackled & lifted onto a flight is horrifying.
