If reports are right then Tony Gallagher has a lot to answer for. Looking forward to either Popbitch or Private Eye getting to the bottom of it

As former editor of The Telegraph & The Sun & the current deputy editor of The Times (who reportedly pulled the Carrie Johnson story) it’s always been hilarious that Boris Johnson’s jogging partner, Tony Gallagher, is absolutely terrified of the general public…

It’s easy to forget that an editor (or a deputy editor in the chair on the day) pulling a published story at Downing Street’s request is letting down a newspaper’s journalists at least as much as its readers.

The Conservatives only ever need a 3.5% lead to win a Commons majority, whereas Labour require 12% in the first-past-the-post system, Professor of Politics Rob Ford explains.

So we still don't know much about why The Times spiked Carrie Johnson story. Options:

1) Legal risk (unlikely)
2) They decided it was not true (possible - but why not fess up? And why no correction in that case?)
3) Political pressure (if so, devastating for paper's rep).

To repeat: if you claim to be providing a service that is essential to a healthy democracy you can't avoid investigating an allegation of this kind.

Equally the Times's spiking of the story is of vital public interest. Was it requested by Number 10 or ordered by Murdoch? 6/10

Such an important topic for construction workers. Sadly being discussed by James Oh Brien in response to a ludicrous Mail headline, but a great opportunity to raise awareness of mental health issues in the industry and the wonderful, vital work of Lighthouse Club Construction Industry Charity. Thank you...
