Every time I type the words "equity leadership" I note that the reason we have to append "equity" onto "leadership" is that most popular leadership frameworks created by white people are silent on equity and justice. I also note that this is probably why they're popular.

Just because a student does not raise their hand, does not mean that they are not thinking deeply about the content. We need to broaden what we mean by engagement in our classrooms/schools. This will invite/value more students in the learning process.

This week, the board approved Peel District School Board new Anti-Racism policy—the most comprehensive Anti-Racism policy ever introduced by a school board in Ontario—as well as a strategy that will support the success of Black students at PDSB.

Engaging student voice is not just being willing to hear what students have to say. It's about reimagining and transforming education in response to what students have to say. If all we're doing is hearing what they have to say, we're manipulating, not engaging.
