No but seriously. I can take my crap and go home at the end of a day if things aren’t done; our STEAM colleagues need time allocated to deal with the materials hundreds of students need to work.

Starting Monday, Seattle Children's is removing all requirements for staff to mask, unless a patient is in isolation.

Previously required staff to mask in patient rooms and when providing patient care.

Seattle Children's keeps stating patient safety is their highest priority 🤔

School and district leaders:

How are you helping your best teachers grow? What are you doing to sharpen their skills? How are you continuing to help them develop?

6) again, the reporting is solid, and I think this is shortsighted and I’d like to see the great Silas Allen follow up with logistics that answer some of these questions

3) how are schools being guided to accommodate all parents where they are? Do we get more adults to help?
4) How do we ensure the loudest voices aren’t just the most affluent?
5) are parents of color and parents of emergent bilingual students getting the help they need?

I love the intention but there are a few gaping holes I wish the article covered:
1) what are parents supposed to do with the information that their kids are ‘behind’
2) how are parents being guided to work WITH schools amidst increasing antagonism between home and school?

The Madwoman in the Classroom Thank you! I think the biggest thing is to assess whatever it is you value, make those values transparent to students, and then...this was the hard part...to actually stick to those values when you assess. The collaboration didn't come naturally because I had to cede authority.

Talking with someone whose family is in Gaza saying how so many of her friends and family have had their housing destroyed.

Even if there is a ceasefire soon, what will the people of Gaza do?

How evil that US politicians continue to fund this slaughter and destruction.

I can’t believe this is still up for debate. But we have reached FAMINE in Gaza.

According to Oxfam, the average daily caloric intake in Gaza today is only 250 calories.

This. Must. Stop.

Anyone of good conscience must speak out and act. That includes President Biden.

Instead of prohibiting slang, teachers can use culturally responsive practices to connect with students and learn from how they talk to each other. The Madwoman in the Classroom Matthew R. Kay

I would love to see these kids, Black athletes and non black ones that wanna do right, bind together and refuse to play for these schools. With the suburbanization and social isolation, and the idea that all these kids see themselves as individual brands tho…

Morning rumination

I don’t know how DNA works really but my children have my feet. Staring at my toddler’s toes, I realize that when I’m gone, someone will still be here, walking around with my feet.

Motherhood is so bittersweet

Being trauma-informed does NOT mean you have to become a social worker or a therapist in addition to being a teacher. Here's a blog post where I unpack 'trauma-informed' vs 'trauma-specific' unconditionallearning.org/blog/im-not-a-…

Wore my keffiyeh to school in solidarity and several students asked if I was with Palestine. I said absolutely and I got a spontaneous hug, a 🫶🏾, and smiles.

A few other students asked why I was dressed like somebody’s rich auntie 😩🤣
