If our assessment practices decrease potential future learning, we need to question them. If our assessment practices decrease the motivation a student has, we need to question them. If our assessment practices dehumanize the students we serve, we need to question them.

If an assignment can be done by ChatGPT, maybe it should be?

An opportunity to redesign education.

Generative A.I. and #ungrading are unintentionally linked. The ChatGPT Molotov cocktail is forcing education to reconcile with that fact that assessment practices hinged on compliance and generic end-products won’t last much longer. We can do better. We can adapt.

I'll be introducing Orwell's #1984 to my students in a few weeks. Would love to hear your ideas on companion texts, activities, assignments, assessments, and so on! The irony of working with this book in this day and age is palpable, but perhaps it's always felt that way.

Schooling for a world that no longer exists is a scam. Educating for the future is hard to predict. The answer has always been to educate the individual to become inspired, resilient, self-confident, and self-aware, so that he or she creates the future by design.

I genuinely believe tools like #ChatGPT can be a positive tool in the classroom and for learning. I also don't want to be put in the position to be the A.I. thought police. There's a lot to reflect on and consider moving forward.

I asked ChatGPT to write 10 tweets about how "grades aid learning." Wow -- it even included hashtags. 😂
