This blog from Alicia Hayden is too important to be missed. It is the most moving, strong, devastating and uplifting piece and should be read by all in the birding world. Support from juliet vickery & the people team BTO is outstanding bto.org/community/blog…

Stunning ten minutes of hirundine migration at Boulmer, late afternoon. Maybe 2-3 thousand Swallows and House Martins heading north (!) over land and sea, passing all around me. None before or after this period. Spine-tingling, hair-raising, the magic of nature!

Young Common Seal on the beach at Boulmer. Unusual here - I don’t think they breed in Northumberland? Hopefully healthy, had gone a little while later. Also two Minke Whales distantly offshore NHSN

Cullernose Point 0910-1100 hrs - nothing rare, but shearwatertastic with 86 Sooty & 702 Manx. Also 2 Bonxie, 1 Arctic Skua, c220 comic terns, 1 Whimbrel. All too distant to photograph, so here’s the Gannets feeding just offshore Northumberland & Tyneside Bird Club

Limpet rings on the foreshore at Howick. Amazing they can wear a groove in such hard volcanic rock, although apparently they can live for 16 years so have plenty of time to do it!
