Drive home improved by a roadside Short-eared Owl this evening. A “possible” breeding record (bird in suitable habitat) for Northumberland & Tyneside Bird Club & UK RBBP, but I’ll visit again to see if it can be upgraded

The Little Ringed Plover is an under-recorded species that breeds on open ground in a variety of habitats including some, e.g. brownfield, industrial and building sites, not often visited by birders. Now is a great time of year explore new areas to find them.

Yes, certainly a Woodlark. Eye stripe goes all the way to back of head. Wings and tail short. Black and white patch at bend of wing diagnostic. Note carrying food like this usually means feeding young in a nearby nest - high evidene of breeding.

A slightly belated reminder that as the breeding season has begun, to please think carefully before posting the location or photos of breeding birds, particularly Schedule 1 and UK RBBP species. If in doubt, please contact the county recorder (@Hurlstoner) in the first instance.

Lesser Spots are definitely a touch particular, preferring sunny still mornings. A few hours of suitable conditions led to 6 individuals in broadly 5 locations, including a pair. The only birds I actually saw. Bees & butterflies with a lovely memorial bench to rest tired legs.
