Superb set up in Phoenix park today to vaccinate GPs & practice nurses. Great support from HSE Ireland National Ambulance Service 🇮🇪🚑 & amazing work from Irish College of GPs & Irish Medical Organisation to get this over line & huge thanks to all colleagues volunteering today!

Clear evidence that Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine likely to reduce viral transmission- after first dose, 4 fold less virus in vaccinated people medrxiv.org/content/10.110…. Higher Ct on this graph means less virus detected (green versus red).

Other than doctors, what profession would accept: - 1-2 year contracts and no job security? - 24+ hour shifts with no guaranteed breaks? - forced geographical relocation on a regular basis? - incomprehensible payslips? - emergency tax every 6-12 months? Answer: none

I must admit I’m finding it harder to reconcile the continuous sacrifices made by all healthcare workers with the news of 3 imported cases of the Brazilian covariant without MANDATORY hotel quarantine. And now the Taoiseach tells TG4 that hospitality will not reopen till Summer!

*COVID-19 PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT*: Demanding fewer staff congregate in THE ONLY OFFICE IN WHICH THEY CAN WORK, without a reduction in workload is absurd.

To improve the health system, IRL must listen to the voices of frontline health workers. In this op-ed bit.ly/3NCHP0q we call for better working conditions for Ireland’s hospital doctors, drawing on @HDRM_project findings #DrRetention Dr Jennifer Creese John-Paul Byrne

We keep hearing how our healthcare system is collapsing (which it is). But that does nothing to improve our understanding. Let’s use a hypothetical emergency department visit to highlight the disaster that is happening every day around the country. Here’s a thread 🧵:

Some facts about NCHDs and Training - thread.. 1 All doctors complete an undergraduate medical degree which takes 4-6 years, paying same costs as all other college students.  They are then qualified as a Doctor.
