The HSE has been notified of the death of a person with measles -the first in Ireland in many years and a reminder of how serious it can be. Ensure your child receives MMR vaccine as part of immunisation schedule or as part of catch-up to 10 yrs through GP if you have missed out.

This is very sad news. Measles is a highly contagious virus & can make people very sick & sometimes cause very serious complications. Best defence is full immunisation & unfortunately vaccination rates are dipping whilst cases in Europe are rising. rte.ie/news/ireland/2…

Absolute highlight of a very dark week was seeing a patient on Friday, who the last time I saw in practice was so gravely unwell I feared I might not see again. Cared for by doctors, nurses, care assistants, paramedics, a significant % of whom I would imagine are from overseas.

It has never been easier to cause absolute havoc in all areas of public & private life, you simply can go on any social media platform.

Louise McSharry The staff in the Rotunda hospital were first responders on the scene with paramedics. They are traumatised. Now they are being advised to stay in and not leave for safety reasons. It is affecting access for worried patients to the hospital and parents trying to visit sick babies

Thoughts of families of those attacked today enduring a nightmare right now. How would staff & families travel to hospital safely at the moment?

What I mean is: if we truly want to capture what is needed in community surely we should be auditing number of declined referrals (& yes some may not be suitable) vs just waiting lists.

It is honestly such a professional low point (never mind how it feels for parents) to have a referral for mental health services rejected vs put on a waiting list. Signposting to other services that aren’t accessible. How can you advocate for resources if there is no entry point?
