Long waits in EDs are caused by full hospitals. Blaming the wrong things, ignoring the evidence, and kicking cans down the road won’t get us out of this hole. It requires long term, courageous policy-making to fix. 5/5

It's this week. A big gathering of healthcare people in London. I really want to hear speakers name the context we're in- the burnt out workforce, morale, austerity, the political context, & also the wider despair & damage in the world. It's ALL relevant context. 1/2

“Staff increasingly experience moral injury linked to the inability to provide the care they think they should be able to give; the sense of letting patients down is highly damaging for people’s experience of work.” - A searing editorial from Mary Dixon-Woods et al.

New phrase for today “stay interviews” - checking in with employees to see how they are and what they need, and thereby hopefully avoiding the need for an exit interview.

What are the ethics of doctors continuing to work in places where patients are being harmed but they can’t address the cause? Interested on views on this. The situation in this story is widespread.

How are Occupational Health depts allowed to ask the questions that they ask doctors when they start in a new hospital? The questions would not be asked in other professions, are ridiculously invasive, and most of them, regardless of answer, would have no impact on the job

Good article although some oversimplifications. First it is CROWDING not overcrowding There is no level of being beyond capacity that is safe. Overcrowding implies crowding is fine. Limerick ED at twice “what it is built for” is no different to any other ED. All underresourced.

Even so, the system doesn’t allow us to progress, failing to acknowledge our dedication and the quality of our service. We merely fill in the scheduling gaps, and it crushes our aspirations. Simply IMGs has no future in Ireland. we are all LEAVING!
