The Government has plans to criminalise rough sleeping in its Criminal Justice Bill.

This would mean that anyone who has become homeless and is sleeping on the streets could be fined up to £2,500 or even jailed.

The Conservatives are all over the place on ECHR.

Today, they attack ECHR for ‘woke’ climate change ruling.

Tomorrow, they will be invoking ECHR to protect greedy rent-seekers in leasehold housing.

Rents are not natural forces. They cannot swell or spike on their own. If they rise, it’s because landlords and lettings agents have put them up. This week’s newsletter i newspaper is all about the enormous problem of historically high private rents… inews.co.uk/news/high-rent…

✨💚EMMALUNA💚✨ We'd like to see this across England - 1 million empty homes: 261,000 long-term empty, plus another 220,000 council tax exempt: homes of the deceased alone 137,000 of these-we'd like to see investment and incentives to return these to use as social housing twitter.com/emptyhomes/sta…

At last …. Such an obvious & simple idea without a dodgy property developer in sight.
Been suggesting this for over a decade but could never get anyone to listen.
So happy to hear this community project is just getting on with it. Respect.

Only city-wide rent controls can end the cycle of insecurity trapping London's 3 million renters.

Labour needs to commit to devolve power over rents to the Mayor of London.

Government is fiddling while our housing crisis burns - recent tax changes for second homes and holiday lets are 'too little, too late from an administration that has presided over the development of the worst housing crisis since World War II' more at:

Finally got round to reading this. Would recommend for a detailed yet readable look at the web of vested interests that are sustaining and profiting from the UK’s housing crisis.

Really does emphasise how reductive and banal the conversation is on housing.

“Planning reform” lol
