I am getting tired of repeatedly tagging The Royal College of Radiologists & Royal College of Physicians responsible for training of oncologists. Why do PAs skip the lengthy & arduous training to practice ‘like a dr’ when Drs don’t? Either my training was necessary to be a safe oncologist, or it wasn’t? 🤔

While the sentiment is lovely, it is rather unfortunate that patients have left the department thinking they have been anaesthetised by an Anaesthetist… It was in fact an Anaesthetic Associate If patients do not know who is treating them, have they truly consented?

Strongly disagree. An anaesthetic associate is not an anaesthetist and they have not undergone the training a patient is likely to assume when using this title. What on earth has been enabled?

To put this in perspective, any doc doing a similar job would have spent 5 years at medical school, 2 yrs in foundation jobs and then got extensive oncology experience - probably another 3 yrs. How can a PA do this with far less experience and knowledge?
