NEW: Actors could join writers on strike July 1 and shut down Hollywood. Streaming has broken the industry. Successful actors are working second jobs. Some received $0 in residuals from Netflix shows with millions of viewers. So 98% of @SAGAFTRA voted to authorize a strike.

NEW: 60% of the 340,000 workers at UPS are part-time. And they don't get the pay that makes being a Teamster at UPS a good job for full-timer. In fact, while many got $22/hr in early Covid, some make just $16 now and can't pay rent. So they're ready to strike August 1st.

UPS has made record profits in the pandemic. Literally over $11 billion last year. And then they took part timers down from $22 to $16. Workers should absolutely strike for better.

On 9/11 each year, my timeline fills up with posts of the World Trade Center and the lasers set in its place lighting the night sky overlaid with the words “Never forget.” To me, that is not the right phrase. That isn’t the invocation. The call should be to “Remember the lost.”

“Never forget” was never a call to remember with love. It was never a summoning solely to honor the people lost. From nearly immediately after 9/11, it was also the tending to a grudge so as to keep hot a fury and stoke an appetite for vengeance. 5/

The phrase was co-opted to foment outrage which was then weaponized and misdirected. It was used to whip up support for a wrongful war which wounded and killed 250 times more innocent people than were lost on 9/11. It was an expression of grief after an act of violence… 6/

…which was then used to abet further violence. I don’t say “Never forget.” I say “Remember.” Remember the people lost… their families… the extremity of their grief… the weight of it felt acutely again today and every 9/11. 7/

No one is at risk of forgetting 9/11. We need no caution as if we might. Remembering though… Truly sitting in remembrance of the people lost… sitting in community with the people left with those losses… That we could use a reminder about. Tom Kelly was 43. 8/

Now that it’s official, the highs and lows of the last 16 hours for the Jets and their fans are almost incomprehensible. Still truly difficult to even begin to process.
