Missing are key issues eg (1) collapse in confidence to grow food (2) impact of weather on farm conditions (3) long-term drop in biodiversity on which food production depends (4) food prices (5) labour difficulties (6) diet's impact on health. But at least there was an Index! 2/3

further to my earlier post on UK Prime Minister UK 'Farm to Fork' Summit ... the more I look at the Food Security Index gov.uk/government/pub… the stranger it gets. That there's plentiful food at global level does not mean UK consumers are food secure or will be in future. 1/3

Not surprising.. we had a look at the opaque world of herb and spice trading for a The Food Programme earlier this year. We found olive leaf in the oregano, but as below, contaminants can be much more risky... ICYMI bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0… Jaega Wise

This says so much about where most people's diets are in the UK, our health crisis, farming crisis - and the vast imbalance of power and profit in UPF at the expense people's health & lives. Local supermarket - 1 tiny fruit/veg section, 3 aisles of biscuits, choc, crisps.

Presumably extends to quality 🇬🇧 fruit & veg on plates across the public sector. Right....??? Like the school F+V scheme, under which according to Sustain only half of the apples come from the UK, and none of the pears nor tomatoes are homegrown gov.uk/government/new…

No doubt there are those on this toxic platform who will mock this army major for his ‘asaJew’ stance on Israel starving and massacring children. But other Jewish people will recognise the deep resonance of his words. Never again for anyone.

High levels of craft skill in kitchen + trust & autonomy to change menus w/availability, also helps manage costs. From a school chef today 'if you buy the same potato wedge now as 2020, its tripled in price. We buy fresh, prep ahead the day before, saves money and tastes better'

Working on my presentation for a talk I’m doing for a University on Thursday. I’m feeling nervous, but also proud of the work I’ve done with Food Behind Bars and what we have been able to achieve. I work really hard and am very passionate about what we do and why we do it.

. Channel 4 News wins the BAFTA for News Coverage for ‘Inside Gaza : Israel and Hamas at War’. A huge recognition of Yousef D. Hammash who provided us with moving reportage and films while international reporters were not (and are still not) allowed in to Gaza. The second year

Must watch. Thank you. Last year producer Sophie Anton & I had lunch in a middle school in Clermont-Ferrand where we happened to be recording on another subject. We were both astounded by the quality of the meal, the ingredients, the calm atmosphere & the small amount of waste

Sheila Dillon I taught cookery from 1968 to 2006 and saw the subject reduced in time, facilities and then turned into a business studies subject designing new commercial products. Kids were too young to understand why these products were wrong.
