Congratulations, TRI-based Luis Pedro Coelho (@Luxembourg 26 Aug-2 Sep) from QUT and Centre for Microbiome Research, leading research that's found 863,498 molecules that can potentially kill infectious microbes and become the source of antibiotics. And they're all from the natural world!

CMR researchers Dr. Alex Chklovski & Dr. James Volmer are currently in Rome, presenting at the IHMC! Here they are presenting at a poster session earlier this week. Special congrats to Alex who won a poster award! Congrats both, we hope you are having a great time when in Rome!

Congrats to CMR Group Lead Prof. Phil b. Pope, a collaborator on the project 'Biorefining of brewer's spent grain into novel dietary fibres', awarded $382,963 from the ARC Linkage Projects grants program. Read more about this years QUT recipients below: qut.edu.au/news?id=195293

CMR researchers Katherine Barlow, Dr. James Volmer and Georgina Joyce presented today at ASM in Brisbane! We hope attendees enjoyed their talks, reach out to learn more.

🚨Centre for Microbiome Research is currently recruiting PhD students in environmental microbiology 🦠🌳. For more info: seek.com.au/job/76604594. Please share 😀

Excited to present a novel method that we developed Centre for Microbiome Research at #ISME19. Join me on Thursday in the novel technique session (PS3.18) at 11.30am to hear all about GenomeFISH, a genome-based FISH method for strain level visualisation of microbial communities.

A fishy tale about the the Salmon Microbial Genome Atlas is now out in Nature Microbiology. We hope this culture and genome biobank provides a functional resource to the community and supports the next generation of salmon gut microbiome projects. nature.com/articles/s4156…

Check out this recent review featuring CMR’s A/Prof Luis Pedro Coelho (16-20 July @ London, UK), which highlights recent advancements and current challenges in the field of orthology-based research. Read the full article here: rb.gy/d532ez

The ASMR would like to announce Professor Tony Kenna as the next ASMR President. Prof Kenna is the Associate Dean (Research) in the Faculty of Health at QUT (Queensland University of Technology), and group leader at the QUT Centre for Immunology & Infection Control Centre for Immunology and Infection Control.

Congrats to the TRI-based team from the Centre for Microbiome Research, winning a Research Australia Frontiers Award, sponsored by ourANU. Under QUT Prof Gene Tyson, the team is answering vital questions about the role of microbial communities in human and environmental health. bit.ly/3YNMIu2

We are proud to share that CMR's Prof Gene Tyson, A/Prof Luis Pedro Coelho and A/Prof Ben WoOdcroft have been named 2024 Clarivate Highly Cited Researchers! A well-deserved recognition of your dedication to advancing scientific knowledge 👏👏 See the full list: shorturl.at/d6WxE

A great way to get more MAGs out of your metagenomes without further sequencing cost. MAGs from coassemblies appear *better* quality, not more chimeric. Excellent work from Samuel Aroney here.
