Today marks 40 years since the people of Islington North first elected me as their MP.

I want to take this opportunity to thank some of the amazing people, groups and campaigns that have changed our community for the better.

It is a national disgrace that in the sixth largest economy in the world, 4.2 million children are living in poverty.

If we do not stand up to the rich and powerful, nothing will change.

Another future is possible — we just need the courage and conviction to fight for it.

There’s a million vacancies in the UK, for minimum wage, zero hour, part time jobs.

That provide no pensions, no redundancies and you can’t survive on.

The problem is the employers, not the workers.

The government and fire service chiefs must deliver the protections, changes to legislation and health monitoring the Fire Brigades Union has long demanded.
