Cars have become safer for passengers and drivers, but being a pedestrian has not.
The legislature must pass #SammysLaw and allow NYC to lower its speed limits and save lives.
Safety must be our top priority.
Listen: at a community board meeting this week, Monique Williams - FSS and BX Community Board 6 member - calls for all Bronx elected officials to 'look into their hearts and pass Sammy's Law in the budget'.
Monique lost her father to a hit-and-run driver in the Bronx in 2020.
Last week, two people were seriously injured by speeding cars on the UES.
There is a way to slow this epidemic of traffic violence: pass #SammysLaw in the state budget and allow NYC to lower speed limits and save lives on our most dangerous streets.
We're back in Albany, continuing our push for #SammysLaw in the budget. We are in a crisis and the NY Assembly Majority has the power to save lives.
TY to Karines Reyes, R.N., Harvey Epstein, and Emily Gallagher for your continued support.
It’s absurd: NYC’s speed limits are controlled by politicians hundreds of miles away in Albany.
By passing #SammysLaw in the state budget to let the City set its own speed limits, we can reduce traffic deaths and make streets safer for everyone.

Our city needs to be able to control its own speed limits.
I was proud to pass a home rule supporting #SammysLaw last year—and I join the chorus of New Yorkers once again demanding the state to pass this common-sense street safety bill in this budget.
Let’s get this done.
#SammysLaw saves lives. It’s that simple:
Safer speed limits on residential streets reduce crashes by at least 17%.
Albany should pass #SammysLaw in the budget, to give NYC control over its own speed limit & a critical tool to fight traffic violence.

Albany must pass Sammy's Law in the budget, and give NYC another tool to fight traffic violence. #SammysLaw #SafeStreetsNowNY

Our office joined the Emergency Queens Children’s March for Street Safety to increase traffic safety for our children.
All over Queens, we’ve needlessly lost precious lives to traffic violence, including 8-year-old Bayron #SafeStreetsNow
TY Jessica Ramos: 'Sammy’s Law give(s) NYC local control over speed limits...one of the most effective measures to reduce traffic fatalities...NYC currently faces a major obstacle: Albany imposes limits on our authority to set speed limits.'

Earlier this week we rallied with Queens Borough President Donovan Richards to announce major investments in street safety and call on the state legislature to pass Sammy's Law in the budget.
Let's get this done NY Assembly Majority.

''We were ready last year,” said Jessica González-Rojas . “The governor wants it, the mayor wants it – it's a no brainer. (Sammy's Law) is not a radical bill and it just really empowers a community to make these decisions.”' via Queens Daily Eagle

Thank you Assemblywoman Nikki Lucas for meeting with us today and for agreeing to sign on in support of #SammysLaw !
We must pass this in the budget and empower NYC to save lives on our streets.
