Texas solar production rose 35% in 2023!

As for capacity, ~24 GW of solar & 13 GW of batteries will be added in 2024-2025. Wow!

EIA states solar & batteries are 'often co-located.' EIA also expects 3 GWs of new gas. Load grew ~7% per year in 2021-2023.

Sometimes, people try to argue that the global warming signal is an artifact of the bias adjustments & other quality control processes applied to weather station data.

That is easily shown to be untrue. The net effect of the adjustments on the global land average is very small.

Any large grids running on 71% nuclear? SA is shooting for net zero in 2027. Does it look like large amounts of FF supporting wind and solar in SA?

Various shorter articles are found on Realclimate.org and scilogs.spektrum.de/klimalounge if you search there for AMOC.

Happy Friday punters! I thought I'd make something that could give you some hope showing just how bad it COULD be! Policy change is slow but if we punters don't give up, maybe the next generation might not have to fight the same battles.

Republicans taking bribes to bail out failing nuclear plants. What could be more American than that?

We are literally a global laughing stock! EVERY single punter, no matter who you vote for needs to know just how SCAMMED we are all getting. Even the UK has managed to pass a windfall profits tax getting more money from their resources than us.

Massive heatwaves are hitting across Europe. Temperatures not even seen in summer are being felt now with many areas up to 16 degrees above normal temperature.

We're in a emergency . We must .

Apparently Australia, one of the worlds biggest gas exporters, is going start IMPORTING gas because we let foreign owned gas corporations export 80% of our gas and are too weak to keep a tiny bit more for ourselves.

Who's running this country?

Seriously:

“effectively means a battery with 500 km of range would have ***zero capacity degradation for the first half million kilometers***”

That’s longer than the life of most US cars.

Why is IAEA - International Atomic Energy Agency ⚛️ Rafael MarianoGrossi worried about attacks on power plant? He says: 'Nuclear energy is safer than it has ever been, and it is safer than almost any other source of energy.' So what's the danger then?

Milestone: solar beats coal during March in Texas!

TX generates & consumes more electricity than any other state. Demand is rising rapidly & solar generation is skyrocketing in TX.

Solar exceeding coal for a month in TX is a clean energy milestone!

In March 2024, for the first time, Solar beats Coal in Texas.
And it’s just the beginning! (Wind is way above, challenging Gas)
Ergo… works.

A popular claim: You need more nuclear power to reduce emissions.
Emissions and nuclear capacity in the Emissions Trading System* countries.
*ETS is the EU plus UK, and has ~103GW of nuclear capacity as of the end of 2023.

In a new piece over at Carbon Brief I compare observed warming (and its historic rate) to three different future projections:
1) The IPCC AR6 assessed warming (SSP2-4.5)
2) The full CMIP6 ensemble (SSP2-4.5)
3) Hansen et al 2023's projected acceleration.

And yes, there is empirical, peer-reviewed support for the conclusion that climate deniers, in general, are truly awful human beings:
