Just hugged my 4y.o. tight w/tears of joy in my eyes, tried to explain what this means. 😁🥹 This makes EVERYTHING easier from here. We have a REAL shot now to preserve so much for him, his little brother & their generation. They'll finish the job w/the tools this helps build!♥️

It took 19 hours. Or maybe 2 years. Or maybe 3 decades, depending on how you count it. But the US Senate has now passed a major climate bill.

It was a compromise. We need to stand with frontline communities against the fossil fuel industry.

But in this moment, I'm celebrating.

We did it. We passed the biggest climate bill that any country has ever passed. It is the reason I came to the Senate. The fight goes on, but for the first time, the American government is taking action that is equal to this moment.

The argument that nothing the US does on climate will matter without China is a lot less compelling when you realize that China already spends well over twice as much as we do annually on building clean energy technologies: assets.bbhub.io/professional/s…

Republican lawmakers attacking oil and gas companies for supporting an ambitious climate bill is yet another sign that ideology has become the primary impediment to meaningful climate action in the US.

the defeat of 2 right-wing parties opposed to any real climate action, & now-imminent approval of sweeping climate/energy legislation in both US and Australia, is a monumental political story that feels like a turning-the-corner moment

It looks like the US isnt the only country long struggling to pass a climate bill that's suddenly making progress: Australia's House just passed a bill that will require emissions to fall to at least 43% below 2005 levels by 2030 and net zero by 2050:

By 'more active than NASA predicted' they really mean less active than the sun has been for much of the past seventy years. swpc.noaa.gov/products/solar…

The sun can't be causing climate chance if we are receiving less energy during the period when the world is warming rapidly!

Having worked on the world's biggest battery projects since 2010, which now look like ridiculous prototype/science projects on the order of 1 MW that needed grant money, I can't tell you how wild it is whenever I see charts like this:

Every year a new layer of snow falls on Greenland & Antarctica. As the snow compacts into ice, tiny bubbles of air get trapped.

By carefully sampling the bubbles in old layers of ice, we can measure the past atmosphere.

That's how we know carbon dioxide has increased 50%.

As many of you know I'm obsessed with physical infrastructure & want to invite you on this journey re: fossil fuel supply chains in a decarb'd future with me.

Basically: examine claims of future small fossil use critically. A lot of these systems have minimum viable scale.
