Councils have no statutory duty to provide space for play, something that is literally vital for children & their wellbeing. This means that sites like adventure playgrounds can be cut, spun off, and undermined, despite all the evidence of their value.

Why invest in programmes like Sure Start:
1. It's the right thing to do!
2. It's a proven intervention that works!
3. It's a service families want!
4. It literally pays for itself.... but like all good things you have to wait to see the results, no quick fixes!

In a space where itโ€™s so often easy to play on fears, I think this article by gabyhinsliff is brilliant. Really articulate about the issues facing kids, but written with thought and empathy. More like this please! (Also yes I am quite partial to potatoes) theguardian.com/commentisfree/โ€ฆ

When I joined MRC Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit I hoped to find a way to use approaches from cognitive neuroscience to understand how digital environments impact mental health. The first paper which perfectly exemplifies this vision is now published in Trends in Cognitive Sciences!
