Postdoc to PI transition..

A lot of people have asked me--since my postdoc is ending-- why I didn't apply to any of the Visiting Lecturer positions in my department. The answer is because the salary for VL positions is $34,000 a year to teach a 3:3 with service requirements.

I’m excited to announce that in July 2025 I will be joining University of Waterloo as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science! Until then, I will continue at Princeton as a DataX Postdoc Fellow, working with Boris Hanin.

I have many exciting projects…

At 33, after a postdoc in biotech, working for a pharma company, I have to for the first time in my life learn how to properly work with Excel.

I have so many mixed feelings about my decisions and abilities.

That's a selection rate of 0.8%
All these candidates have PhDs with at least 3 years of postdoc.

I used to work at Technical University & my postdoc mentor there used to say:

'Be careful, here they pray to the God of technology & believe all society's problems have technological solutions'.

I think I never fully grasped the weight of his warning until this AI hype cycle.
