X-Ray tech to me a wheelchair user:
Tech: “Can you walk?”
Me: “No.”
Tech: “Can you stand?”
Me: “No.”
Tech: “Well that’s a problem. I don’t know how you’re going to get up on the table.”

The problem is not the disabled person.
The problem is the inaccessibility of exam tables.

For this afternoon I’m in the Pecha Kucha panel session.

Thinking about the hopes each panelist has for improving the human experience in health and care.

Level boarding is supposed to give disabled people freedom to travel. Yesterday I had some one at a level boarding station demanding to know where I was going. I said I’m all good, kept pressing, I said you don’t need to know. Kept pressing. I asked why, he said so I can radio it…

Just a reminder about the behaviour standards & expectations of trained assistance dogs.

This is Guide Dog Ava in a room full of toddlers on balance bikes.

Like 8 tiny hysterical drunk cyclists who were extremely excited by the presence of a dog.

Ava? 😴

Just had to crawl onto the train as no staff despite asking for assistance. A passenger helped lift my chair on. Two of the accessible bays had cars without badges so I had to park in the premium car park. That's £20 for the day. Train is crowded so can't contact the guard

No wheelchair user went anywhere near this new policy it is totally unworkable/unsafe. Eurostar Questions: What if you can’t transfer? Are staff able to help with transfers? If someone falls during a transfer - then what? What if the station chairs are unsafe for you to use? 1/3

A new type of train assistance 🚆♿️ fail for me:

I was put on the wrong train! I realized after staff had already taken the ramp & left. He came back 20 min later & asked if it’s okay — I said “Well no, if I wanted this train then I would have bought a ticket for this train.” 🤦🏻‍♀️

In the words of my fab midwife “formula can be a step in your breastfeeding journey.”

I used formula in the first weeks. It enabled me to rest & heal.

Now I’ve nearly reached 18 months of exclusively breastfeeding.

Shaming parents about formula doesn’t help hungry babies.

You know there are those moments when you struggle with your sexuality. Especially as a bisexual woman in a long term relationship with a man.

And then Gillian Anderson plays Emily Maitlis.

(Also, as a blind woman, thank you for the voice… excellent work).

🚕 How many of you have booked a taxi and then had to justify yourself to the driver why they should take you?

This happens to us ALL THE TIME. I’m so sick of having to justify myself to Uber. It’s really upsetting

You read Audiobooks.
Audiobooks are read.
Reading does not occur in the eyeballs.
Reading occurs in the brain.
People can use their eyeballs to read.
People can use their fingers to read.
People can use their ears to read.
It’s all reading!
Any definition otherwise is ableist.

The thing about a lot of the ableism we've seen in the past few weeks is how many people must have signed this stuff off

So, once again: this isn't bad apples. It's a whole rotten orchard of society
