Living with serious chronic illness is soul destroying. It takes time and fortitude to reach a place of acceptance. The process for drives a coach and horses through that as you're obliged to face, detail and evidence every single aspect of what you cannot do.

Is any DPO or disabled-led campaign group putting together a template response to the PIP consultation?

I’m happy to share my response once I’ve written it but that won’t be for a while considering the…..length

I wonder if the Prime Minister and Cabinet Ministers should also be paid in vouchers. After all they too are paid directly from public expenditure.

The DWP consultation on PIP is out. The gov is trying to take away a vital benefit for so many disabled people

Closes 22nd July

PIP IS NOT AN “OUT-OF-WORK” BENEFIT

- Stop talking about “getting people into work”
- The DWP hasn’t worried about “unnecessary assessment” before now
- For “treatment” (if that’s even relevant) we need a properly funded and supported NHS

Touretteshero Phil Murphy What is a ten pound note (or any denomination) if not a voucher? The actual value of the piece of paper/plastic is virtually zero. It is what you can exchange it for that gives it value. Is Sunak proposing a parallel currency for disabled folk?

OUR LIVES = WORTH LIVING

Today, DAN folk are joining Not Dead Yet UK folk to protest for our right to ASSISTED LIVING and dignity IN LIFE.

We can't trust this, or the next govt to preserve our still-shrinking right to support while they can send us to death clinics.

I'm happy to provide a briefing on PIP for any struggling politicians and journalists so that when you discuss it you actually understand what it is and what it is used for. I won't even charge you for my time and expertise!

Hello! Every month we try and make a useful free resource at BAP! which have been e.g. guides to legal structures for artists, tips on bid writing.

What would be something useful for the next one? Artist / organiser focused for this one? Tends to be funding related.

Record numbers of disabled people are waiting for Access to Work grants which funds office adaptations, equipment and travel assistance. These waiting times can cost people jobs and come at a time where people with are already struggling to make ends meet. mirror.co.uk/news/politics/…

Strange to be opening a play which makes the radical proposal that people with learning disabilities are people just like the rest of us in the week that the government has decided to dehumanise them more than ever.

Looks like we’re at it again aren’t we?
Let’s clarify: I am in work, as a disabled person and I am claiming PIP to enable me to be in work! I have a job and I claim PIP to help with extra costs of being disabled. Can news outlets get this right?

account_circle
Touretteshero(@touretteshero) 's Twitter Profile Photo

It punishes disabled people for living in a non-accessible, ableist world in which we incur huge extra costs just because of how our bodies & minds work. It’s so enraging to hear politicians get info so wrong & not be challenged on it because the journalists don’t know either!

Does it bother you that the UK government treats disabled people like children? Why not?

They want to turn disability benefits into pocket money, to be given or withheld depending on whether they approve of what we buy theguardian.com/politics/2024/…
