Sarah Olney Juliana Terlizzi Thank you for standing up for victims and survivors voices, Sarah. The exploitative system that bars our therapeutic means of recovery is horrific. These are OUR stories, our lived experiences and we deserve a right to read them. Paying for that service is the borderline abuse.
That is why my colleague, SalBrinton, has tabled an amendment to the Victims’ Bill, scheduled for Tuesday in the Lords, which would help reduce the cost of transcripts for victims.
It is time that all parties came together, listened to victims, and supported this change.
Justice should not have a price tag, and I am so honoured to stand side-by-side with victims such as Juliana, Charlotte Meijer, David Challen, @dollyscoobs and the whole OpenJusticeForAll campaign in calling for action to be taken on the cost of court transcripts
At PMQs today, I raised the case of Juliana Terlizzi, who was asked to pay £7,500 for the court transcript of her rapist's trial.
Nobody should be charged thousands for the transcript of the trial in which they were the victim.
Yet the government keeps refusing to right this wrong.
Lee Mallett controlled every aspect of his partner’s life. The court recorder described it as ‘one of the worst offences of domestic violence he’d come across’.
