Tim Cook 𝘈𝘯𝘢𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘢 𝘙𝘦𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘴 Didn’t expect an answer to these questions but if the anatomy is otherwise ‘normal’, these results shouldn’t be a surprise FYI, an ‘experienced’ person using DL should also obtain the same results in pts with ‘normal’ airway anatomy The key is being ‘experienced’ w practice

We had a fantastic time during airway day! We practiced cricothyrotomies, SALAD airways, pediatric & neonatal airways, and fiberoptics. Our interns and med students tried different techniques for the first time. Thank you to our faculty and chiefs for putting this event on! ❤️🚒

Tim Cook “In our hospital, we have used videolaryngoscopy for all tracheal intubations since 2017, with approximately 5000 tracheal intubations per year, and have had no reported cases where this occurred. “ I struggle with this. 35,000 VL intubations and never a DL rescue?

Burnt Toast Tim Cook Yes, it’s a mess! We reserve hyperangulated VL as primary or backup for high-risk patients, while regular blade VL (aka 'fancy DL') is used for teaching DL or placing nasal/monitoring tubes. Blade shape is crucial; the platform, not so much.

If VL is much easier to use, why is it that #UK #paramedics generally are not allowed to intubate? FYI: the UK uses special airway teams that race towards the victim(s) (if their services are known to be needed) i.e. separately to hopefully save them. Tim Cook

I like the idea of keeping options open - and that could be your device Nilesh Vasan - under certain circumstances.

Nilesh Vasan Ben Cloyd MD, MIPH Sam Schechtman Difficult Airway Society (DAS) SAMHQGlobal SHANA - Society For Head and Neck Anesthesia For surgeons experienced with straight and channeled laryngoscopes, this device offers a great rescue option—easy skill transfer and familiarity are key. In a pinch, it's likely a better choice than a hyper-angled videolaryngoscope that’s less familiar.
