Mike Hakata And here we are outside one of London’s many sacrificial nurseries where the poorest children are being poisoned by LTN displacement. Not sure how you all sleep at night, knowing you are harming other people’s children. This is not climate action. It’s the rich stealing clean air

With so much going on in the world this week I’ve been reluctant to highlight Oxford’s traffic trials & tribulations, but this post really highlights the painful reality. Those involved directly & those not speaking out against should be ashamed!

There needs to be a completely objective survey by specialists not linked to any local authority into the traffic policies of LTNs, road closures, rapidly imposed ultra low traffic zones, congestion, levels of air pollution and punitive highway robbery fines imposed by councils!

Weekend FT letter says Low Traffic Neighbourhoods were implemented so rapidly, without basic data, v difficult to persuade locals of all political persuasions they just shift traffic from one street to another “increasing congestion ..and pollution”. Yes!

NoDirtyAir4All Will Norman Waltham Forest Council Not silly - infuriating! I walk, cycle & use public transport. I now need to use an inhaler because I live in an LTN pollution dumping ground. Creating victims by shifting traffic from areas of high car ownership to roads where poorer people live is environmentally unjust.👇

Ediz Desperate to increase the number of cyclists but unable to convince motorists to switch modes, they’re delaying, reducing & removing bus services by imposing LTNs and converting bus lanes to cycle lanes. 😢

The UK needs a group focussed on social & environmental justice. 🙏🏾

Reconnecting Oxford I find myself in the strange position of being strongly pro-cycling.

Yet strongly against the idea of top down imposed so called '15 minute cities'.

Which are totalitarian by nature, controlling and oppressive.

And Council jobsworth's paradise.

‘Sir’ Richard 🙂🤔 Reconnecting Oxford I live in the block in the background of the photo. LTNs have caused way more noise and congestion all around us, and made our daily hellish - most of us want to move out.

13 PCNs issued to a teacher, in a cost of living crisis & Royal Mail Strikes by Lewisham Council

They all came at once, 28 days later

Council rejects all representations

We start our appeal

The council dropped 12 before tribunal & today we won the appeal on the 13th 😏

There needs to be an inquiry into LTNs, there’s just so many issues to review - the role of councils, lobbyists & consultants, the cost & revenue raised, the use of emergency powers & manipulation of data, the impact on public health, disabled people & businesses to list a few.

A thread on the latest research into LTNs – widely promoted but narrowly interpreted by LTN advocates – here’s an alternative take on what it shows.
Let’s start the data itself rather than the averages.
The following all appear in the research – what can they tell us?

Tell us 📢 where you’d like your street tree 🌳 planted.

When a resident sponsors a tree through @treesforstreets, they get to say where they’d like it planted. Their council does a survey. If all ok, a tree is put in that following winter.

It's not about whether you personally want to or need to drive. It’s about understanding the simple truth that in cities, if everyone tries to move by car, no one moves much at all. So the more of us that are enticed to walk, bike & take transit, the better it is for EVERYONE.

An institution & staple for decades now ruined by & inevitable reduction of footfall. Those who cycle always could and now anyone who can't has no opportunity 2 travel as public transport thwarted. Shameful shortsighted politics!
