We’re a day late for MLK Day, but still every day is right to quote and fight for his beliefs in social justice. When applied to homelessness, especially in West LA, and the rallying cry of NIMBYs to fix the social issue by criminalization of the poor, this quote speaks volumes.

We’ll take impulsiveness anytime. A thoughtful look at the Venice residents who don’t get it, who made a recall about them and not leadership, and who want to turn Venice into a Brentwood by the sea. “This wasn’t about Bonin, it was about you, and you failed.”

💯! LAMC 41.18 is modern day redlining, the state once again segregating our communities. Blacks make up 8% of LA County’s population, but are 42% of the unhoused population. Structural racism, discrimination and unconscious bias is sadly endorsed here as status quo.

From 1990 - 2020, the Black population in Venice decreased by 45%. (From 1960-1990 it was stable). Stop the trend. Data courtesy Pacific Urbanism #BlackHistoryMonth #RedliningIn2022

This is true. There also shouldn't be people ticketed, arrested, traumatized by law enforcement, and stolen of the little they have to survive because of these same failures.

God forbid we allow churches to help address our homelessness crisis by providing emergency shelter to the unhoused. These people’s cruelty knows no bounds.

.@newhouseforla and his segregationist supporters LOVE to talk about how homelessness is an emergency that needs a FEMA-like response. Can you imagine if during a natural disaster, these NIMBYs told churches they could not open their doors to help people?

Temperatures are plummeting to 36 degrees tonight. We made a map of winter shelters. There are a total of 358 total winter shelter beds for over 60,000 people. google.com/maps/d/edit?mi…

Temperatures tonight will be in the 30s. A stark reminder of why we need to make it easier to provide housing and shelter. We hear a lot about the need for a state of emergency. That means removing obstacles to bringing people indoors.

We reject Michel R. Moore's proposal about 'pretext' stops, which claims to restrict these stops, but in reality just gives officers ways to continue the same abusive, racist behavior under a new guise. Join the fight bit.ly/LAPCFAILS #LAPCFails

The horror. A bunch of outsiders have to run down the street and see poor and destitute humans in a public space, ruining their privileged extracurricular social activities. Where is the dept of justice? 🤦🏽‍♂️

If Jesus is the truth and the light and you don’t know the history of your people, nor care to establish any respectable relationship in embracing your ancient #Indigenous heritage on this land, then by your own Christian doctrine- you’re not even a follower of Jesus.

Sadly, a not uncommon story. Sweeps are traumatizing in of itself. But the trauma leads to other trauma, and so on. We need our city to care for individuals more than the property where the individuals are.
