Yesterday, the #Rise2Resilience Coalition held a rally with Office of New York City Comptroller Brad Lander to fight back against cuts to the nation’s strongest climate resilience program—FEMA BRIC. We urge Governor Kathy Hochul and Mayor Eric Adams to take legal action and get back the $300+ million NY deserves.

New York City just experienced their second wettest hour on record 2.07" fell between 7-8PM.  This is behind only the 3.47" that fell in one hour from the remnants of Ida No other event has seen the city record more than 2" in one hour

The stormwater infrastructure in NYC is built for 1.75" per hour maximum (and in many places it's less than that) 2.07" fell in one hour today

You are absolutely right. I was at #CityofWaterDay at Kaiser Park on Saturday. There is still so much we need to do to protect our neighbors & infrastructure from flooding. Lower Manhattan is jumpstarting it, but we desperately need more projects across the Boroughs.

NYC is ~subtropical~ now 🌧️ Yesterday's downpour was the second wettest hour in NYC history. With cmjuliewon.bsky.social's universal daylighting bill, NYC could use our intersections to reduce flash floods. A single bioswale can manage 1,100-2,200 gallons of water during a storm:

Big Wet coming after 2 PM with 2 inches of rain per hour likely!! and 3'' possible. A reminder that most NYC sewers are 100+ years old, made of brick, and only designed to handle ~1.5 inches of rph – anything more than that, and we're gonna have problems. Be safe & be prepared.
