Doesn’t make any loss of life less tragic but a serious reality check on public use and fatal ODs in BC “in 2024, 84% of unregulated drug deaths have occurred inside (47% in private homes and 37% inside social and supportive housing, single-room occupancy buildings.” 84%.

NEW - 192 British Columbians died of toxic drug overdoses in March, says the coroner. That's up 8% from February, but down 11% from March of 2023.
Concerningly, coroner says the death rate for women in 2024 is double the rate from 2020.

It’s still stupid to raise the price of a new home when you’re sitting on large reserves, and a surplus from last year. In the middle of an affordability crisis.

- Carbon pricing reduces carbon emissions
- Development charges reduce housing development

But not both.

To be an “active business” you have to have at least 1 employee.

Interesting to look at whether the insolvencies being picked up now are primarily within micro businesses, self employed professional corps and passive entities. Or not.

That would reconcile with active biz data.

Tyler Meredith Hi Tyler, in aggregate we could argue bankruptcies we see merely represent post-COVID 'normalization'. But looking through industries, some show worrying trends (restaurants, manufacturing , financial services, non-energy resources)

The impact of higher rates on construction has been highly unequal.
BC and Atlantic Provinces have managed to keep building at peak rates, while Manitoba, Quebec, and Saskatchewan have seen starts get crushed since rates rose.

Good thread here. One thing some don’t realize is that DCs go into one big pot that the city spends as it sees fit - the fees aren’t necessarily spent in the communities where they were collected. So it’s hard to follow the spending, at times.

Yet another poll - 4 out of 6 - shows plurality of people support capital gains change.

Spark and Innovative are the only two to show opposite. And it depends on the frame of the question.

So by and large - we’ve seen a lot of evidence: it’s a popular budget measure.
