People with mental illness continue to have high rates of smoking. It is a main reason why life expectancy in mental illness is around 15 years lower.

Public health measures like this are literally vital.

A&E rising demand isn't driving long waits in A&E. Attendance rates are not dramatically up from pre-pandemic levels. The real issue is collapse of social/community care provision & some increased acuity. This is driving longer stays & means fewer open beds for ppl to go into

Wendy Burn CBE (She/her) Not clear how a bed expansion will be staffed when vacancy levels for drs & nurses are ≈20%. Takes 10+ years to train a consultant 3+ years a nurse, salaries insufficient to attract from OECD & immoral to poach from 2/3rd 🌍. Then there’s our hostile NHS environment.

Concerning but necessary critique: non declaration of conflicts, overstatement of findings, highlighting avoidance of consent and ethical processes by labelling research as “service evaluation”. I’ve highlighted this get-out with camera studies before. Good blog John Baker

AsifAMHP hundredfamilies True. However, an assessment should have taken place to determine the position. A reported lack of bed does not and should not, have prevented that from happening.

UK Facts:

🎯 Poverty and ill health are connected. That includes mental illness.

🎯 NHS mental health services are not overrun by the worried well. NHS is struggling to provide decent care for people with severe, debilitating mental illness.

Facts matter!
