Dear The Labour Party. Trivialising the fact that police tried to shut down a conference organised by your political opponents is not a good look. Times change. Attitudes change. One day, your views may be 'unfashionable', and the police may try to do the same to you.

Rosie Duffield, Graham Linehan, JK Rowling and many others with a lower profile who were coerced into silence or bullied (and worse) if they were brave enough to speak out deserve an apology. The Cass review has thoroughly vindicated them. My latest. 👇 paulembery.com/p/the-unravell…

Our basic freedoms are imperilled far more by those who try to shut down a conference expressing mainstream conservative thought than they are by the individuals addressing that conference. If that isn’t obvious to you, you haven’t thought about it.

Authorities in Brussels are trying to shut down a conference of mainstream European conservatives on the grounds that “The far right are not welcome here.” I recently wrote about how the term “far right” has lost all meaning. 👇Who really doubts it? paulembery.com/p/how-everythi…

A conference on conservatism - taking place in Brussels and attended by mainstream figures - is being besieged by police trying to shut it down. A decade ago this would have been unthinkable. If you care about political pluralism and freedom of expression, it should trouble you.

Glad to see slight recovery of sanity today, with people in media and politics beginning to realise that an Israeli retaliation for Iran's attack might be problematic. General war in this region would not be a remote event, but would affect us all directly and harshly.

Too many politicians are willing to adopt a position because they think it's 'fashionable', not because it is right. Regardless of their political stripe, they desperately seek the metropolitan embrace. That simple fact explains much that is wrong about our politics and country.

Have never understood why players do this silly 'stutter' thing when taking penalties. I subscribe to the Tony Adams school of penalty-taking. 'I just put me head down and smash it. If I don't know where it's going, the keeper certainly doesn't.' x.com/PremSportsTV/s…

748 migrants landed in Kent at the weekend. The government has utterly lost control of the nation's borders. In doing so, they have (tragically) ensured that the issue of immigration is again a running sore in our society. They deserve to be wiped out. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/….

Can't really disagree. If a bomb went off in 1980s London, most people would instantly assume it was the work of Irish republicans. If it later turned out to be the Animal Liberation Front, it wouldn't exactly make the original assumption unreasonable or prejudiced.

To put this in kitchen extension terms: the builder you hired has just been through his 14th excuse as to why the foundations aren't even in after 18 months, you have a plastic sheet for a back door and none of his lads ever turns up to work on the job.
*So you sack him*.

Liz Truss's economic policies were utterly wrong-headed. I'm glad that her brand of neoliberalism did not take root. But on the point about a transfer of power from elected politicians to unelected and unaccountable officials and institutions, she is undeniably correct.

True, this. The media constantly focuses on alleged failings in the public sector. But can anyone seriously deny that customer service in the private sector has gone into sharp decline?
