The latest results from the annual UK Butterfly Monitoring Scheme (UKBMS Live Data) show that 2023 was a mixed picture for butterflies 🦋
Half the 58 species had a better than average year while the other half were below average at monitored sites. (1/6)

Did you know that there are some moths in the U.K. with entirely AQUATIC CATERPILLARS?! I didn’t, until last year when I was introduced to the Brown China-mark (Elophila nymphaeata).
What a moth. 🤯🐛

The male of this common species flies from February to April. The female is almost entirely wingless!

Last Carrick work party of the winter season BC Glasgow & South-West Scotland 🐛🦋 started dull and ended in bright sunshine and warmth today. Eight great volunteers cleared gorse to help Butterfly Conservation 🦋 on the scenic Solway Coast. Well done all who have helped this season!
