New Moth Book. My copy of the much anticipated book 'The Larger Moths of Scotland' by Roy Leverton and Mark Cubitt arrived today. It does look really good and will be of interest to many moth recorders in D&G, Scotland and beyond. Definitely recommended!

The weather has been a little bit better of late so I've had the moth traps out in the garden a few times (VC73 Newton Stewart). The usual selection of early spring moths. Best of the bunch was Grey Shoulder-knot - still scarce in Scotland but my third record here.

Yet another example why today's vote on the Wildlife Management Bill is so desperately needed, Jim Fairlie MSP SNP

Last Carrick work party of the winter season BC Glasgow & South-West Scotland 🐛🦋 started dull and ended in bright sunshine and warmth today. Eight great volunteers cleared gorse to help Butterfly Conservation 🦋 on the scenic Solway Coast. Well done all who have helped this season!

Elect Conservatives again = continue the decade-long policy disaster that is the badger cull. I’ve read the consultation doc and I’m shocked by its dishonesty. Can’t quite believe govt scientists are putting their names to this. They should be ashamed. theguardian.com/environment/20…

Moth Monday: Poplar Hawk-moth (Laothoe populi) is the most widespread hawk-moth in the UK & its distribution increased 27% 1970-2016. The caterpillars feed on the leaves of poplars & willows in a wide range of habitats. (📷Iain H Leach)

This kind of sneaky vileness goes on all the time. It's not the nets or the trawlers or habitat loss or pollution or siltation of spawning grounds. Nope it's always another species with the solution desired by the narrowest of dark, medieval mindsets being the ability to kill.

Scottish officials have also said they can produce 18 piglets per litter. An unhinged claim with no scientific basis. My book GROUNDBREAKERS busts this myth & various others bloomsbury.com/uk/groundbreak…
