An exciting #MothMonday morning with Mark Cubitt!
One Brindled Ochre (Dasypolia templi) in six traps set among rocky scree in the Lammermuirs.
A long wished-for moth for me, last recorded in East Lothian in 1928, by Alice Balfour.
Where else might they be lurking?

Tissue (Triphosa dubitata) overwintering in a mine in West Lothian, where it has been since last September.
One of SIX that Mark Cubitt and I found yesterday on a Tissue-tastic end of season #HibernatingHerald count. Good numbers for Scotland!

But visitors included this mouse moth (Amphipyra tragopoginis) - first record for the hectad according to Mark Cubitt's maps at eastscotland-butterflies.org.uk/mothflighttimeโฆ. /1 #mothsmatter

A species I've only seen once in an unlikely location, with this individual near my trap on Handa in August 2018. It was a county first and I think a first for the Scottish islands.
Katty Baird Mark Cubitt Hi Folks , Wonder if you know local status of Cognata form of tawny speckled pug . Don't think I've had one before .

Katty Baird British Moths Butterfly Conservation ๐ฆ BC Scotland The British Nature Guide Scottish Wildlife Trust ENHS BuglifeScotland Edinburgh Entomology TWIC We learned so many things about Scottish moths as we have researched literature and records for the book. Very many thanks to the CMRs and recorders who have provided data, insights and photos. We hope that those reading the book will enjoy some discoveries too.
