50 years ago, the United States enacted the Endangered Species Act. In a new #SciencePolicyForum, we invited experts to discuss how the Act has evolved and what its future might hold. Read their takes: scim.ag/5kX

Climate change has killed at least four million people. I wrote this because I felt like I was the only one who had noticed. If you ever read and share anything I've written, I hope it'll be this short piece, out today in Nature Medicine nature.com/articles/s4159…

Biodiversiy is declining, yet we have limited knowledge about how that affects human well-being. My work linking bats, insecticide use, and human infant health is out today in Science (science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…), and tells a complex story about how those are connected.

Nearly every scientists I know talks about how their interests outside of the lab influence their work in it. And yet the message we are sending undergraduates interested in research careers is that they don't have time to develop these interests at precisely the time most of us

If you're a scientist that serves on an NSF panel that got cancelled today, I'd love to talk to you about it for an NPR story. DM, email or reach out on signal.

NEW: NSF confirmed that they fired 168 employees today, out of their staff of ~1,500 feds. This includes some people who had recently finished their 1 year probationary period, but their probationary status was extended to 2 years without explanation last month.
