Junk food, The Grinch, and Mariah Carey-oke…all the essentials for celebrating the end of the semester. Maybe we didn’t learn much history today. But we did learn how to laugh, spread joy, and celebrate being in each others’ lives. And I’d say that’s a #teacherwin

Tonight at our VCS Board meeting, we recognized DeLand High Bulldogs + showcased their CTE academies and programs. CTE programs prepare secondary students with technical, academic and employability skills for success in the workplace and in further education.

A1: In history, rote memorization is no longer necessary. Technology has removed a big portion of that need. Students need to know how to “do” history…not just spit out facts. Analysis, contextualization, etc. These are the skills they need. #DHSbookchat

A2: For Cold War one-pagers…having the Ss complete through Canva. And having Canva linked to Canvas for digital feedback. Then maybe sending out the top ones for peer review or maybe a stations activity. #DHSbookchat

A3: Popplet sounds like it could be useful for helping Ss work together to organize their learning from primary sources. Also helps track participation among Ss in a group setting. #DHSbookchat

TA: One area of growth for me is getting Ss from a passive state to an active state. With so much content to cover in a short period of time, this can be a challenge. So as I’m planning I’m looking for tech tools to help with that goal. #DHSbookchat
