Today The Washington Post launches a series exploring the astonishing rise in home-schooling across the U.S. This first piece is about a couple who left behind the world of conservative Christian home-schooling, sending their kids to public school: washingtonpost.com/education/inte…

I was “homeschooled” and told that public schools were evil. Meanwhile I was not educated, but abused and was a child care provider for my younger sister and the household servant. By the time I was 12 I worked 15+ hour days with my stepdad on his truck for no pay. I do not

The problem with ATI/IBLP isn't so much the cultiness of it - it's the normalcy of it. It's hidden in plain sight. It's the same theology that built Mars Hill, Hillsong, and every other toxic Christian leader/org being exposed right now. +

The line from #ShinyHappyPeople keeps running in my head…”we were ultimately what they most feared and all we had to do was talk.”

"The government shouldn't even bother asking us to do assessments because we'll just lie" is not the defense of homeschooling you seem to think it is, Retta #MakeHomeschoolSafe sevendaysvt.com/vermont/vermon…

HSLDA is trying to deregulate homeschooling in Ohio. If you are an Ohio resident or were homeschooled in Ohio and would like to fight this, shoot me a DM and I'll get you connected. #MakeHomeschoolSafe

Homeschool law was built from the ground up to create an avenue for control, neglect, isolation, and abuse. It doesn't matter how many "good ones" you know- the law is built to shelter the worst. It is *by design* that these statutes are easily exploited and unenforceable.

When TMJ4 News called asking Coalition for Responsible Home Education how it as possible for an 8 and 9 yr old to be locked in a room for years and not know how to read or write, the answer sadly is "easily." #MakeHomeschoolSafe youtu.be/lz3k1F4xYuM

And decent secular homeschoolers who care, I need you to be LOUD. Talk about it often. On your social media and in your groups and co-ops. Homeschooled kids are dying from abuse and neglect. I need you to care louder.

For all the homeschool alum out there-- if you were homeschooled from 14 to 18 years old, how involved were your home educators?

URGENT: We need your help to stop Nebraska LB 1027, a bill that destroys even the most minimal protections for homeschooled children. Here’s what you need to know: crhe.org/lb-1027

Coalition for Responsible Home Education (@responsiblehs) 's Twitter Profile Photo

If passed, LB 1027 would: - Alter enrollment requirements, leaving some homeschooled children unaccounted for - Permanently block school districts from protecting homeschooled children at all - Remove a co-parent’s right to make decisions about their child’s education

This bill is part of a wider strategy to completely dismantle any protections for homeschooled children nationwide. We’ve seen similar bills in South Dakota, Vermont, and Ohio. We cannot allow Nebraska to join the states that leave homeschooled children without help.
