Sarah Ludford 🇬🇧 🇮🇪🇪🇺 🇺🇦 That’s the democratic process she herself has influenced by extracting a promise from Keir Starmer and continues to attempt to influence through the media’s treatment of her and her family as if they were royalty. Motes and beams …

Listening to David Lammy on BBC Radio 4 Today attempting to justify abolishing trial by jury, it is increasingly and terrifyingly clear that he simply does not understand the issues.

It is not too late to put the brakes on assisted dying, and focus on improved palliative, social and end-of-life care theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

This government will Try you without a jury Block your puberty and Assist your suicide This is not normal politics, this is fundamental political dysfunction.

Jessica Elgot This will surprise no-one. It is consistent with the dishonest + deceitful way the ass.dying campaign has been conducted. Leadbeater + Falconer’s statements have been misleading + unclear. Attacks on Peers who are scrutinising the poorly drafted legislation have been disgraceful.

#WASPI Campaign The campaigners continue to compare themselves to the victims of the infected blood scandal, or the Post Office prosecutions. These are highly inappropriate comparisons, involving compensation for loss of life and loss of liberty, not indirect financial loss from lack of notice

Either Kim Leadbeater MBE MP didn’t know this (“spokesperson” quoted here) in which case she’s a stooge and too dim to realise it. Or she did know it and is not truthful. Both answers are bad and show she should not in any way be in charge of this. People will die due to her stupidity.

So Starmer is aiming to "Eliminate opposition". Think about that. 'Progressives' in Labour really are on a roll this week, on top of eliminating juries & eliminating various local elctions. Government labels so many far right, but its own authoritarian instinct knows no bounds.

Rachel Amos Barbara Rich teresa smith Trevor Phillips I agree with you absolutely, although “an example of a legislator not prepared for or equipped for the role she has chosen” whilst perfectly said, is the understatement of all understatements. 😉

Prime ministerial appointments to the House of Lords *for life* are antidemocratic and shouldn't be allowed to happen. If I were reforming the House of Lords, I'd keep it as an appointed chamber of experts, but I'd have citizen panels do the appointing for fixed terms.

“We are absolutely listening to the experts … we’ve got a very safe, workable bill” Except, the *experts* have said - repeatedly - that the bill is not safe. Or workable.

Sonia Sodha (@soniasodha) 's Twitter Profile Photo

I hadn't clocked that David Lammy wants to remove the automatic right of appeal for magistrate trials *as well as* increasing their sentencing powers to 18 months too (and it was only 6 months until a year ago). Deeply, deeply flawed and illiberal. thetimes.com/uk/politics/ar…

Don’t come here to insult people. Please. We engage fairly in this happy little corner of the internet. If you’re concerned or worried about these proposals then write to your MP. Please. This is still a democracy. This was not in their manifesto. And you can help to stop it.
