In our @UofGLawPodcast, part of the 'Read and Rights' bookclub with RebLaw Scotland, @nadineaishaj reads a very powerful and profoundly sad poem entitled 'Scot-Mid', and explains what fueled this poem.

Thank you RebLaw Scotland for bringing the curtain down on the “Dear Sirs” salutation: lawscot.org.uk/members/journa… I would go further and discourage "Dear Sir or Madam" by which the male gets to feel like a knight; the female like an 8yo in a strop.

Couldn't agree with this more! Being taught to use 'Dear Sirs' bothered me in my early days as a trainee, but became so ingrained over the years I stopped questioning it. Time to leave it behind. Thank you RebLaw Scotland for writing this article.

RebLaw Scotland have made the case for abandoning the salutation “Dear Sirs” "This form of address is not just inaccurate, however. It represents something greater. The use of “Dear Sirs” privileges the male norm. It tells women that we do not belong." heylegal-news.co.uk/?p=942

Thanks Hey Legal for sharing. As lawyers, we know the importance of language - and the words we choose to use. How can we hope to close the gender pay gap when the very words we use erase women from the profession? More Scots lawyers are women than men. Dear Sirs has to go.

Good to see Scots lawyers majority support for dropping styles which airbrush-out most C21 recipients (tho quite a few dinosaur responses)- h/t to Scottish Legal News for their poll at us5.campaign-archive.com/?e=3332d56c33&…

The future is intersectional and feminist! RebLaw Scotland's article on gender-inclusive salutations is exactly the right way to start the year. Taking away the binary and the gender assumptions raises our expectations of others and ourselves. Well done, Rebel Lawyers!

Our friends at GCU Law's inaugural Law and the Common Good Lecture has Children and Young People's Commissioner Scotland's Bruce Adamson delivering the inaugural lecture. There are a lot of developments re: LGBT+ youth, particularly #trans youth, so this should prove a fascinating and important lecture. Sign up!

If you haven’t seen these brilliant resources from TIE yet - they are a must read. TIE does important work and it was a privilege to have Jordan speak at our 2019 conference. For lawyers, a lot of inspiration to be drawn from these icons 👏👏👏
