Quetzal formed out of years upon years of facing race & gender based violence in social justice spaces where we organized as teachers. Whether it's in grassroots organizing spaces or schools that claim a social justice vision and mission, we are tired of it!! #QuetzalEducation

We don't know ONE woman or nonbinary educator organizer that hasn't faced gender based violence while doing this work and that makes us sick. This work requires us to explicitly address violence caused by heterosexism, patriarchy, and toxic masculinity. #QuetzalEducation

Abolitionist & antiracist work (we name both b/c they are different) both require an intersectional lens that centers the voices, experiences and truths of queer, trans, Black, Indigenous, womyn, & gender noncomforming people. PERIOD! #QuetzalEducation #WomensFuturesMonth

We cry, we lament. We hold space to honor the lives of those lost. Truly it's difficult to post in a state of mourning. It's difficult to say anything when our communities are grieving so much. But as we know, silence will get us no where. And yet, words are not enough.

Schools need to do more than write a statement standing in solidarity with the Asian community & against anti-Asian racism. Performative allyship has no place in holding space for the grief Asian families are experiencing right now. Show it in practice. Mean what you say.
