There are outstanding teachers around the country who work every day in jeans. There are mediocre teachers around the country who work every day in jeans. The variable here… is not denim. (I’m all about “professionalism”… but that concept is about much more than fabric.)

I had a student say "I know it cancels, but I don't know if it cancels to 0 or 1." This reminded me of why precision in language is important. That's why I say "creates a zero pair" or "simplifies to 1" instead.
