How can drawing help us calculate 1/4+1/16+1/64+1/256+...?

Spice up 'dry' math topics with 'Would you rather?' questions.

Unit conversions was my most boring lesson until I changed the questions to things like 'Would you rather drive 100 ft/sec or 50 mph?' Students would make predictions and want to learn the math to find the answer.

It's a great feeling when a student asks for help and 10 minutes later excitedly asks for harder problems.

'It's just adding 1 in the denominator, how bad can it be?'

Quick shift: I'm teaching surface area/volume today and was going to just do several 'calculate the surface area/volume of this solid.' I know that's kind of dry so now I'm doing 'Which has the greater surface area/volume?' so students predict and use math to find the answer.
