Although I was briefly marching in the Victoria Pride Parade, it has been immobile for about 20 minutes. ☹️ Reports on Twitter say it is facing the same kind of disruption that cancelled the Toronto pride parade.

Maybe the saddest post I've ever seen. Completion of the TMX Pipeline tripled the amount of climate change-causing bitumen that could be shipped. Climate change increases severity of wildfires. A wildfire is now destroying Jasper. And the priority is protecting the pipeline.

Well The Guardian gets it, do Canadian voters? "Canada is proposing to lead on climate–but it’s doubling down on oil...the only G7 nation to emit greenhouse gases far above its 1990 levels–while now also planning to extract and export record volumes of oil." theguardian.com/environment/ar…

It always annoys me that articles like this one never acknowledge that people might conclude the planet cannot sustain its current population level and therefore rationally decide to forego having children for the greater good. nytimes.com/2024/07/25/wel…

This is a good article on the pending collapse of the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation as a result of climate change and on the science underlying the prediction that 2057 (the year I'll turn 100!) is the likely date for that. motherjones.com/environment/20… via Mother Jones

More proof that none of the supposed justifications from Justin Trudeau and his Government for the TMX pipeline were valid. They have tossed away $30 billion plus of taxpayers' money and tripled the level of CO2 emissions for no benefit whatsoever. reuters.com/business/energ…

We are going to be losing a few really busy family doctors on the North Shore over the next couple months. Docs who’ve devoted much of their lives to their practices. One for 40 plus years. They’ve tried for years to find replacements. Just not able to. One forced to leave for

Reading this article, wondering how people can just keep using fossil fuels for their transportation, cooking, heating, etc., how politicians can keep facilitating fracking and pipelines, and how the news media can keep reporting on ephemeral trivia. theguardian.com/environment/ar…

So the tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles aren't providing a buffer for North American automakers as they transition to electric vehicles, they're giving them license to continue business as usual, i.e. fossil fuels. President Biden should scrap them. nytimes.com/2024/08/21/bus…

So we won't be getting any $13,000 BYD Seagulls in Canada. It's difficult to see how they can represent unfair "competition" when North American auto makers have abandoned compact cars in favour of building big SUVs and pickup trucks. nytimes.com/2024/08/26/bus…

COUNTRY ANALYIS: as its forests burn, #Canada’s pace of #climate action appears to be moving at a glacial pace: its EV sales mandate the only major new policy from its 2022 climate plan to be implemented. Overall rating has improved to "Insufficient" bit.ly/CAT_CAN

There should be a name for the phenomenon where left-of-centre governments have promoted the fossil fuel industry throughout their tenures, but at election time point at their right-of-centre opponents and say, "But climate change!" Election ecologists? Green when convenient?

A global average temperature of 97 degrees Fahrenheit in the past, as compared to the current average of 59 degrees. But yes, let's scrap the carbon tax and keep exporting bitumen and LNG. nytimes.com/2024/09/19/cli…

Despite the greenwashing of plastic fields - i.e. calling them "turf" when actual turf is completely different - there's no disguising the problems they create, which in this case involved clumps of plastic and a nearby creek. timescolonist.com/local-news/tur… via Times Colonist

A new study showing that exports of LNG are worse than coal at causing climate change. I wonder whether BC voters will think of this when they vote this month in an election in which 2 of the parties are big proponents of LNG? theguardian.com/us-news/2024/o…

It's deeply shocking that only 4 of 10,000 RCMP vehicles are electric, but at least they are now at least *thinking* about transitioning to vehicles that would be faster, more reliable, cheaper to operate, and less polluting. timescolonist.com/local-news/wes… via Times Colonist

This is reminiscent of a 1940 science fiction story by Robert Heinlein, "The Roads Must Roll". While it's incredible that anyone would build a 500-km conveyor belt in real life, governments spend comparable amounts on worse projects (the TMX pipeline!). theguardian.com/world/2024/nov…

Until today, it was possible to believe that the owner of this platform might sell it if his attempt to use it to achieve his political goal failed, so that it would return to the grand forum it once was. Sadly, that is no longer the case. With hope for better days, good-bye.
