Drug addiction is a medical problem. It should be treated with compassion. That does not mean drug use in hospitals around other patients, nurses, and other staff is at all reasonable. It puts others at risk and just further stigmatizes the patient with addiction.

I had a busy week up north. Coming back to a waiting list with 309 complex medical patients on it. I could improve access and quality with a physician assistant on the team if government and the College could get this done. It is moving at the speed of molasses. Frozen molasses.

Is it reasonable to have patients use illicit drugs openly in hospitals? Most patient care is delivered in shared rooms. Does this help or hurt our ability to recruit nurses and other care providers?
