🚨Today our team began carrying out a multi-day operation to facilitate the release and transfer of hostages held in Gaza and of Palestinian detainees to the West Bank. This will include the delivery of additional, much-needed humanitarian assistance into Gaza.

We are relieved to confirm the safe release of 24 hostages. We have facilitated this release by transporting them from Gaza to the Rafah border, marking the real-life impact of our role as a neutral intermediary between the parties.

Good discussion with Head of ICRC’s Delegation for the UK and Ireland Philip Spoerri about supporting people affected by armed conflict. We discussed ICRC work in Gaza, getting life-saving humanitarian assistance to the Palestinians and the need for all hostages to be released.

International humanitarian law provides protections for humanitarian workers, those wearing the Red Cross or Red Crescent emblem, and medical facilities. These protections must be respected. #NotATarget

The ICRC just supported the safe release of 113 detainees in Sana'a, #Yemen, as a neutral intermediary. We welcome this unilateral release as a positive step towards reviving negotiations under the Stockholm Agreement, and remain ready to help facilitate further releases.

For months, civilians in northern Israel have lived with increasing levels of violence and uncertainty. Tens of thousands of people have fled their homes, still unable to safely return. We urge all parties involved to prioritize the protection of civilians and adhere to #IHL.
