A very important piece of work launched by Children's Rights Alliance today. In Big Start we believe that accessible, affordable, quality early years services are vital for our society and to guarantee quality we must have adequate gov funding and professional pay. #ChildPovertyMonitor

Just €30m would raise ECCE capitation to €76 per child per week, and provide emergency relief from cost pressures which were not adequately addressed through Core Funding. Preschools are closing. The time to act is now. mmcgrathtd Roderic O’Gorman TD Kathleen Funchion SF Jennifer Whitmore TD

Pressured into doing a Sector Profile Survey, then deadline extended after it had passed. Late with hideous Core Funding process, pressured into signing, then a plan B announced. Wrong figures in Ready Reckoner, which you were told about May 4th... See you Wednesday @dcediy

Immigration & refugees didn't cause the #housingcrisis It results from 20 yrs of Irish Govts handing housing over to the market-developers, banks, landlords & now REIT investor funds. They commodified housing There are 166000 vacant homes Enough public land to build 100000 homes

Teachers need to adapt to the needs of children entering school and not dictate what children do in ECCE. They are in dander of underestimating Children’s abilities they can learn skills and develop socially and emotionally

Recently I made the decision to leave the early years sector, a sector I love, but cannot afford to remain in. So sad to be hanging up my teaching hat but after one day in a new job, I've had more benefits offered to be than in seven years as an EYE. Says it all really.

In Budget 2023 we are calling on government to invest €107 million in pay and conditions. This would bring all Early Years Educators, Room Leaders and Managers to Mercer rates of pay. It would recognise staff, tackle the recruitment crisis, and improve quality for children.

Dissertation submitted. I am equal parts happy and sad to be done! It was my last connection to the Early Years Sector after having to leave the job I loved earlier this year.

House prices stalling & likely to fall. A Generation holds its breath, maybe affordable housing is on the horizon. But in steps the Central Bank, acting for the banks, property investors, wealth-the 'system' No! Let them borrow more to keep prices high! The game is rigged

Imagine the status and respect early childhood educators would automatically get if they were publicly known as brain builders 🧠👩‍🔧
