Very sad news. Heritage Eastbourne has an excellent #archaeology collection and delivers fantastic community work, as has Towner, whose significant leadership has attracted financial investment to Eastbourne. This must be devastating news for #heritage #culture colleagues.

It’s #FindsFriday 🥳 In 2023 we celebrated Hazel Martingell at our Annual Conference. This photo shows an original artefact, an illustration and the article about the piece written by Hazel in 2017 for the journal of the Essex Society of Archaeology and History. #StoneTools

Find #JerseyCI’s unique #geodiversity in our buildings! Historic fortifications were built using local rock to protect our #Island during unsettled times. E.g., the granite used to build this 18th century Conway Tower in the Parish of Grouville. No.1 Tower is still in situ today.

I often join metal detecting pages on facebook to see the scale of looting ('legal' and otherwise) but sometimes I wish I didn't. This is happening *far* too often and there's no mechanism to stop it. What a ridiculous situation.

The eastern Menhir from Mên-an-Tol, Cornwall. Which I'm sure doesn't get photographed in its own right nearly enough. #StandingStoneSunday

With only around 10% of England and Wales' estimated 40,000 detectorists record with the PAS. Many don't even know we exist, what the code of responsible detecting is, or about Treasure legislation. The hobby's leaders need to step up to help with education. They have the funds!

This is not just any mortuary landscape. This is a Late Bronze Age mortuary landscape made by people obsessed with the theme of transformation, manipulation & redeposition of partially articulated body parts, & potentially, human and animal sacrifice. 🗡️ This is Cliffs End.

The BBC says it has serious questions about the methodology of the attack on BBC reporting of Gaza in today’s Sunday Telegraph. Jeremy Bowen and Lyse Doucet, who are singled out for vicious criticism, are known worldwide as two of the finest correspondents in world journalism.
